A crise hídrica perceptível com a redução das chuvas entre 2020 e 2021, que causou graves impactos ambientais, sociais e econômicos no Brasil – continuam causando prejuízos em alguns municípios do Maranhão.
Na última sexta-feira (10) O Ministério da Integração e do Desenvolvimento Regional (MIDR), por meio da Defesa Civil Nacional, anunciou a situação de emergência em Bequimão e Bela Vista do Maranhão.
Ambas as cidades enfrentam dificuldades causadas pela estiagem.
Com essa medida, as prefeituras das cidades estão autorizadas a solicitar recursos do Governo Federal para ações de enfrentamento à crise.
Entre as iniciativas previstas estão a distribuição de cestas básicas, abastecimento de água potável, refeições para trabalhadores e voluntários, além da entrega de kits de limpeza.
As ações incluem socorro e assistência às vítimas, restabelecimento de serviços essenciais e reconstrução da infraestrutura destruída ou danificada.
A solicitação deve ser feita por meio do Sistema Integrado de Informações sobre Desastres (S2iD).
Atualmente, o estado do Maranhão conta com sete decretos de reconhecimento de situação de emergência vigentes, sendo seis deles motivados pela estiagem e um devido a um colapso de edificações.

O colapso de edificações é a perda parcial ou total da capacidade de suporte de uma estrutura, resultando na queda de parte ou de toda a construção. É um evento catastrófico que pode causar perdas de vidas e bens materiais.

O QUE É ESTIAGEM
The picture, taken near Iranduba on October the 8th 2023 during the dry season of 2023, when the Amazon river reached record breaking lows, shows an emergency makeshift solution to provide water to the homes along the riverbanks of this sidearm of the Amazon river. The dry riverbed, which barely just has a small trickle of water in the riverbed, which is usually a sidearm of the Amazon river with over 10 metres depth, and at least 15-20 metres wide, was once the provider of water for life along the riverbanks. Here, the wooden houses on stilts (behind the scene) would source water for cooking, bathing, and human activities in general, right in front of the houses. With the exceptionally strong drought of 2023, the water source has become far, and down a steep riverbank, making the job of getting water not only tedious, but uncomfortable in the record breaking temperatures this summer, of over 35C on a daily basis. As the local community is near to the small city of Iranduba, it is served with electricity, and therefore, one can note that electric wires have been placed all the way down to the trickle of water left in the riverbed, to drive a small water pump. It is a makeshift solution until the water starts to rise again, probably only in mid November, when the rainy season sets in in this part of the Amazon region.Taken on the 8th of October of 2023, this picture shows the effect of the very quick drop in water level of the Amazon river close to Iranduba, near Manaus, where the riverbed of of a side arm of the Amazon river practically dried up with the drop of over 10 metres of the water level of the main river channel. The sun and average daily temperatures around 35C are quickly drying up the mud of the riverbed, which starts to crack up as the upper crust hardens and dries. A small stump of wood sticks out.
